The poetry poster project, funded by Addy Beukema, was initiated in 2007 to create a collage of art and poetry. The initial stages involved working with visual artists to illustrate selected poems. The poems were pooled from various poets across the country. The project’s objectives were to produce poetry books for school students and promote reading and writing poetry. The first book published under this project was titled Painted Voices (2008) and was launched by the director of the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC), Connie Kateeba, at Afriart Gallery in March 2008. The project was replicated to produce Painted Voices Vol. II (2009). This was launched by the German ambassador to Uganda in March 2009.
